Explore the impressive conservation journey of Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW), one of Vietnam’s leading forces in wildlife protection. As part of the Saving Threatened Wildlife project, funded by USAID and awarded to WWF, SVW recently completed a six-month initiative to implement wildlife welfare support activities. Through this article, we aim to highlight the project's notable achievements and future innovative initiatives for wildlife conservation in Vietnam.

Over the past six months, from April through October 2023, SVW conducted 40 wildlife rescue missions across seven provinces, rescuing over 100 animals from 18 different species, including 32 pangolins, 18 small carnivores, 42 reptiles, and 10 primates. With a success rate ranging from 82% to over 90%, SVW successfully released 25 pangolins and other animals back into their natural habitats, contributing significantly to the recovery of wildlife populations in Vietnam's forests.

Simultaneously, SVW established the Vietnam Wildlife Rescue Network (WRN) to support and enhance the capacity of wildlife rescue units. The network coordinates professional activities among its members, facilitates rapid solutions for the timely care of wildlife, and increases the overall effectiveness of wildlife rescue efforts in Vietnam.

Additionally, the project implemented several veterinary initiatives, such as surveying facilities and wildlife care practices at member rescue centers within the network. These efforts helped develop standardized documents, including rescue protocols, animal care procedures, and biosafety regulations, creating a valuable shared reference resource for all network members.

Through the Saving Threatened Wildlife project, SVW has gained valuable resources to achieve key conservation goals, including the rescue and care of wildlife, while establishing a network to strengthen wildlife conservation efforts across Vietnam.
