Carnivore & Pangolin Conservation Education Center

The Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Education Center opened in February 2016, coinciding with World Pangolin Day. It was a wonderful start to the new year with two significant events occurring on the same day. Our dream became a reality - a place where Vietnamese people can learn and demonstrate their care and commitment to the conservation of carnivores and pangolins.

The Center is designed to evoke emotion in visitors, thereby encouraging their participation in nature and wildlife conservation. It also serves as a venue for educational programs for visitors of all ages, and the center’s long-term animal care area serves as a model for ensuring the rights and welfare of the wildlife housed there.

The Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Education Center is open 7 days a week, including holidays, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Admission to the Conservation Education Center is included with your National Park entrance ticket. For the best experience, we recommend visiting between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM, when our animal ambassadors are most active, as many of them are nocturnal carnivores.

Programs

The younger generation holds significant influence over the future of nature. Yet, children in Vietnam have few opportunities to connect with, explore, and learn about forests and wildlife. To address this, we have developed a series of conservation education programs for students aged 5 to 17 across Vietnam, primarily in areas surrounding protected zones.

Our programs and activities are designed to be age-appropriate, catering to the physical, psychological, emotional, and educational needs of students. Furthermore, we emphasize interaction and engagement from students, teachers, partners, and local communities. Pre- and post-program surveys are conducted to assess the impact of our initiatives on each participant group.

As of July 2021, over 11,133 children living in the buffer zones of National Parks have participated in SVW’s conservation education programs, held both in schools and in the forest. Additionally, hundreds of students in major cities have taken part in our online courses on wildlife conservation.

Enhance awareness, knowledge, and attitudes among students, teachers, and parents

Develop and implement community engagement programs that are scientific and sustainable, tailored to diverse target groups. These programs must be practical, effective, simple, and cost-efficient, encouraging active participation from stakeholders while creating a lasting impact for both people and wildlife.

Pilot outreach methods and evaluate effectiveness

Establish local core conservation groups in SVW's key project areas, capable of independently implementing programs to promote local community engagement with minimal support from SVW.

Build core groups, provide training, inspire, and organize study tours for core members

Inspire, develop, and enhance conservation capacity for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as young people aspiring to work in the conservation field.

Community education and outreach

Develop a free online database consolidating social research from conservation organizations in Vietnam, along with conservation materials developed and proven effective by SVW for education and awareness-raising. This will serve as a source of scientific evidence and data to support the development of education and awareness programs in Vietnam.
