Species Conservation
Many wild animals in Vietnam are being illegally hunted and traded to meet domestic and international demand, causing a severe decline in rare species populations and pushing many to the brink of extinction. SVW is focused on conserving species before it is too late and rewilding them to restore populations in the wild.
Pu Mat National Park, Nghe An
Pu Mat National Park is located along the Truong Son range, representing a tropical and subtropical forest region with high mountainous terrain. Pu Mat boasts a diverse ecosystem with 2,494 plant species, 132 mammal species, 324 bird species, and 86 reptile and amphibian species.

Wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release
SVW collaborates with Cuc Phuong National Park, Pu Mat National Park and Cat Tien National Park to operate 3 wildlife rescue centers and promote the establishment of the Vietnam Wildlife Rescue Network, ensuring that rescue efforts contribute effectively to the conservation and growth of wild populations.
Conservation breeding
Developing conservation breeding programs has become critically urgent for rewilding endangered wildlife species that are unable to recover on their own in the wild. SVW prioritizes these programs for the Owston's civet and the Chinese pangolin.
Species conservation research
Species conservation research involves ecological and social studies aimed at gathering information on the distribution, habitat, and natural behavior of a species, as well as assessing threats to wild populations.
Developing species conservation strategies
SVW is a pioneer in developing and implementing conservation strategies for endangered species such as pangolins and Owston's civets in Vietnam, while also participating in and promoting other national and international species conservation strategies.
Policy development contributions
SVW has been working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to provide direct input and policy recommendations for species conservation and wildlife management, while also supporting these ministries in conducting research, assessments, and organizing conferences and workshops to contribute to policy development.
