Pre-campaign survey with communities in the buffer zones of Cat Tien, U Minh Thuong, and U Minh Ha National Parks
Over the two weeks from May 8 to May 21, 2023, SVW’s Demand Reduction officers, with the support of volunteers, simultaneously completed two pre-campaign surveys focused on reducing the demand for wildlife products by targeting behavioral change in the buffer zones of Cat Tien, U Minh Thuong, and U Minh Ha National Parks.
The pre-campaign surveys were conducted to collect data on public awareness, perceptions, and attitudes toward wildlife, as well as knowledge regarding illegal wildlife trade, consumption trends, and behaviors. This data will be combined with post-campaign surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented campaigns.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions that posed many challenges, the four-person team successfully collected 410 responses from residents in the Cat Tien National Park buffer zone. Meanwhile, the pre-campaign survey in the U Minh Thuong and U Minh Ha buffer zones, involving three volunteers and Demand Reduction officers, collected 400 responses from local residents.
In the coming time, SVW will collaborate with the National Parks and local authorities to implement a series of campaign activities, including posters, signage, content and support materials for community evenings, short films, and other media products, all aimed at raising awareness and changing community behavior to reduce the demand for wildlife products.
